Also, guideline will be provided for all aspects of ministry for this age group. This book is composed of 12 Essentials for doing quality Christian education for the adult age groups. It begins with a biblical and theological foundation, gives information about the context for ministry to all ages of adults and their families, and helps persons understand what these age group are like and how spiritual formation takes place. Guidelines are also given for helping vocational age group minister and volunteer leaders in gaining support from the pastor, other staff, and the congregation. A key chapter relates to quality teaching -- the often overlooked aspect of ministry in emerging churches today – much more that fellowship and “just hanging out.” Ideas are also given for creatively conducting activities to attract adults and their families. Guidelines are also given for providing state of the art facilities and equipment needed for a good learning environment. Also addressed are the all-important skills for securing, developing, motivating, and ministering to a group of caring leaders and teachers. To round out the skills needed for effective adult ministry, is that of developing a viable system for communicating to adults, volunteer workers, and the congregation. Finally, a chapter is provided on using wholesome motivation and servant leadership as a means of guiding and inspiring teachers and leaders and parents. As mentioned above the target audiences will be ministry students in universities and seminaries, pastors and staff leaders in local congregations, and persons who lead small groups in Sunday School Bible teaching will be in the focus of writers.

The author has thoroughly reproduced his experience and knowledge in the book.I must say that this book is a must have for the beginners.Though some important notes like OAF and BI Publisher are missing,the author mentions that he will cover it in the second book.I really appreciate you (Andy Penver) especially since I had a very tough time to get a hold on Oracle R12 fundamentals from a developer's point of view.There are a lot of materials on the internet but most of them are unstructured and you have to google again and again to get to the correct point.This book has a lot of diagrams with proper explanations and steps to configure them.Once again a heartily thanks to Andy Penver.I will be eagerly waiting for your second book :D

Avicenna also stands at the beginning of a period during which philosophers sought to integrate the Arabic version of the earlier synthesis with Islamic doctrinal theology (kalam). Avicenna's metaphysics significantly influenced European scholastic thought, but it had an even more profound impact on Islamic intellectual history―the philosophical problems and opportunities associated with the Avicennian synthesis continued to be debated up to the end of the nineteenth century.

A profound study of a profound mind

Avicenna (a Latinised version of Ibn Sina) was born in 980 A.D. in Central Asia. He died in 1037 in Persia. A child prodigy who memorised the Koran by age 10, Ibn Sina also taught himself medicine and treated patients as a teenager.
Arguably the greatest mind of Islamic civilisation, his intellectual achievements stand out all the more when you examine the context of his prodigious output. He produced about 450 works on philosophy, medicine, psychology, to name a few areas.
Wisnovsky, an accomplished historian of philosophy and classical Arabist, has provided a precise and painstaking study of Avicenna's philosophy in context. The 'contextualism' championed by Wisnovsky, which owes a debt to the pioneering work of the philosopher of science, AI Sabra, seeks to recreate the situation and context in which Avicenna's ideas were generated. Wisnovsky has mastered a difficult topic and rendered the work of a complext mind with aplomb. He eschews reductionism (simplfying stuff)or precursorism (glorifying achievements) to produce a balanced, sympathetic but level-headed study of the work of a great Islamic and world thinker.
Wisnovsky writes well, but the subject matter is heavy-going. Not for the lay reader but certainly very useful for students of the subject, whether professional or the garden variety, like myself. I look forward to future works of Wisnovsky.

About the Author
Tom Walker is a fourth-generation police officer. In 1976, he published the gripping Fort Apache: New York's Most Violent Precinct, a landmark exposé on urban violence. After 21 years of service, Walker retired from the New York Police Department with the rank of captain. Walker worked in risk management and occupational heath before retiring in 2004. Tom and his wife, Mary, live in the Bronx.

Fort Apache; New York's Most Violent Precinct

This is a book that I read about thirty years ago when I was a rookie police officer on a large county department. My copy has been lost these many years, so I am glad to see it back in print. I recall that the story was so riviting that I could not put it down. The action was grity and non-stop. There was real "cop humor" of that time. It captured the almost unreal drama of police work at a time, when only the few tactical teams that existed wore ballistic armour and carried rifles. Portable radios barely got reception for a few blocks (on a good day). We carried wooden nightsticks, flap saps or black jacks, handcuffs, a six-shot revolver and our patrol cars had shotguns with 00 Buck. We relied on our mobile radios, pay phones, and even call boxes. There were no PCs, only rotary dial phones, teletype machines, typewriters and carbon paper. Hard to believe that these were the tools of the trade a relatively short time ago. Back to the "story"; it was a scary time to be a cop (some things never change). Police Officers were often ambushed with bottles and bricks from rooftops, unruly mobs and even shot in the back for no reason other than wearing "blue" and a badge. Do not confuse this book with the film "Fort Apache the Bronx" starring Paul Newman. Although I am an old Newman fan, the movie was a stinker; NOTHING EVEN REMOTELY resembling the book.

Great story.

This is one of the books that made me want a law enforcement career. The soft cover version I bought was solid and of good quality. The first paperback I bought years ago disappeared so this is my replacement. Worth the money.

Saw a movie, years ago thought I'd read the book on a rainy weekend

I recommend that you read this book, that you spend a nice sunny day walking around the neighborhood that made up that precinct you will not recognize it now things change. But it's always good, to go back to one of these paperbacks and journey into the proverbial ghetto. Police work, is dull 90% of the time unless you're stationed in a precinct like Fort Apache when you go to work you have a strong chance of being seriously injured or losing your life. If you survive you can go on to get an agent and write a book about your experiences this still goes on today if there's any doubt just look at the current roster of books available under the same tried-and-true format. A book comes to mind that made it to the bestsellers lists sometime in the last three years, about an officer's experience on the lower East side I think the title was like alphabetville or something anyway it's the same show just a different episode but this particular one Fort Apache is one of the originals. I recommend that respectfully Johnny Irish

Best Description of MXF Technology and Metadata Structures

This book explains how MXF files standards the interchange of media files and streams between different systems. It includes a lot of good diagrams that identify and summarize complex metadata structures used in MXF files. Includes lots of details on the history of why and how MXF was developed. It covers the relationship between MXF and MPEG, AAF, EBU and SMPTE standards. If you are looking for a good understanding of MXF, this is a great book to have.

bad printing

I was looking for a book on MXF and so i've bought this book.

Unfortunately most of the the images in the book are dithered and so the text in these images is difficult to read, sometimes impossible to read.

Also, the table of contents only sums the main chapters but not the paragraphs inside the chapters. So you have 30 or so pages which you have to scan through page by page to find a particular subject. The paragraphs on the pages are not numbered which makes it difficult to get an overview where you are and how the paragraphs are related.
