I may not know art - but I know what I like

This book was a disappointment to me personally. I did not like most of the art. There is a lot of nudity and I find most of the illustrations have absolutley nothing to do with the songs. I don't see why "Strawberry Fields" needs to be illustrated by a photo of 2 completely naked children. The lyrics are in small type and seem trivial compared with the graphics. To me - it was more that the lyrics were an afterthought and the art work was most important. Also - there ware a lot of solo work by John Lennon included - but equal attention was not given to the other 3 Beatles for their solo efforts. If you are into freaky 60's art and completely gratuitous nudity - then you will probably like this book. But - it's not for every Beatle fan. Oh - and BTW - the person who wrote that "Two of Us" was about Paul's relationship with John and not about Paul & Linda - read Anthology or "Many Years From Now". That song IS about Paul & Linda.

The Beatles content seems to be about 2%. Just weird pictures that have nothing to do with Beatles lyrics.

The pictures don't seem to have much to do with the Beatles or their songs, or lyrics, at all. This book is a joke. I don't recommend it at all. There are a few interesting pictures in it, but it's a large book and a waste of time and money.

A bible to the Mod movment!

This book is stuffed with detailed information on the Mod culture of the early 60's. The author goes on and on telling whatever he can on what was going on, how they dressed, what they liked, the drugs, the scooters...everything! That's not all of it. That book contians thousands of black and white photographs of the scene (images of the kids danceing, riding and strutin' themselves across the beaches). This book tells the history of mod from it's humble begings to it's sad end in the mid-sixties. I would recomend this book to anyone who is interested in Mod. I would also suggest viewing the movie "Quadrophenia" for more of an idea of what Mod was.

An aphorism for clean living under difficult circumstances

Well, I used to get mad trying to look cute like them, me and my mates spent hours reading it! I translated it into Italian and photocopied my translation handing it out at the mod meetings held in Rimini each easter. Now I'm past those days but sweet memories still keep coming back.
A reportage from the past with fresh and amazing photos, but you'll find that style is not a fashion!
Five stars is my rating, but is not an impartial one!

Disappointed to the nth degree

I have become a HUGE Lora Leigh/Breed fan, but this novella left me disappointed. I have come to expect amazingly hot love scenes from LL and her Breed series but i also love the development of the plot and characters along with it, but in Wolfe's Hope it was like LL decided to remove anything of importance and give the reader a couple dozen pages of (not even really good) erotica.

I would recommend that even if you have become a huge fan of the Breeds skip this short story, it doesnt really add anything to the Breed world and the writing wasn't good.

Shorter than a short story-not worth it

I have read nearly all of the Breed books by Lora Leigh and am a fan of hers. However, I missed some by reading them out of order and that is why this review is so much later than the original published date. I did not want to miss part of the story by skipping this book. TRUST ME, you will not miss much, most of what happens is in the beginning of the next book (Jacob's Faith) skip this short short story and save some bucks. The following is a spoiler.

SPOILER...Wolfe and Hope are mates and Hope's Mother is the one that created the wolves and attempts to have Wolfe breed with Hope in the lab. He has marked her, but will not touch her due to her young age of 17. Shortly after that, there were explosions in the lab and the wolves escape the lab. Hope thinks all the wolves died in the explosion, but after 2 years her Mother finds out that they are alive and is obsessed with retrieving Wolfe again. She sends doctored pictures of Hope with other men to Wolfe to tempt him to contact Hope. After 6 years of Hope grieving, he kidnaps her believing that she has betrayed him and is involved with her Mother in a conspiracy to kidnap his pack. The truth comes out and It brings them together while her Mother steps into the trap Wolfe has set.

Barely a short story - certainly not a book

I love Lora Leigh's books and was looking forward to reading this one. It looked more like an 'abstract,' or one story thread in place and the rest of story lines left dangling. I am not looking for a story that might have been included in a journal, I come to the Kindle Store to buy full-length books. Authors should VERY CLEARLY identify the type or length of a published "product" or risk alienating loyal readers!

I am a senior researcher who teaches research methodology at the advance level at my university. This is achieved by dividing the material and the research process into three interlinked cycles; design, ethnography and analysis. The design phase includes the initial literature review, selection of theoretical framing and context, and the research question. This phase, as well as the other two, is referred to as cyclic, meaning that the various activities affect one another in an iterative way. The research approach is otherwise only too often described in a linear manner, and I find the cyclic description used in this book be much closer to reality. I think students will benefit from understanding this.

Next comes the ethnographic cycle. Here the authors cover data collection by explaining in-depth interviews, focus groups and observations. They also discuss participant recruiting quite thoroughly but the part on ethical issues is unnecessary weak. In particular, I miss discussions about overt versus covert field work and insider/outsider considerations.
The analytic cycle, finally, describes how to develop theory by coding, comparing and conceptualising data. The authors here adopt an explicitly stated inductive approach to theory development, which gives the reader a kick-start to grounded theory. The authors do, however, explain that existing deductive theories cannot - and should not! - be ignored since the new theory must interplay with existing knowledge. In fact, they suggest that the contribution need not be a brand new theory; theory development may also extend or modify existing theory or the contexts to which it applies. I think data analysis, which often is missing in other text books, is a strong chapter, but maybe a bit over the top for undergraduate students.

One of the strengths with this book is its many useful examples that illustrate points made in the (theoretical) text. For students or others who are new to (qualitative) research these cases are likely to be very useful. However, the book claims to be multidisciplinary and the authors are indeed from different fields, but I find that health sociology dominates quite heavily (many examples involve HIV) and it might be a bit of a challenge for students in management or technology use to map these examples to their own context.

Reading the text you quickly notice that it is firmly grounded in the authors' own experiences. This is obviously also a strength since the authors know what they are writing about. The drawback is that the authors' personal preferences come off quite strongly as *the* way to do qualitative research, and although there is nothing wrong with their presentation, as a teacher I feel that I need to show alternative ways too. To do that I need to bring additional material to my course. This is not a big problem since there is plenty of complementary stuff available and the authors themselves provide many useful pointers in the bibliography sections. I just want to point out that this is a potential problem if you plan to use this as textbook for self studies.
The authors use the umbrella term Ethnography to bundle data collecting methods such as interviews and observations. Other umbrella terms that might be mentioned in a book on qualitative research methods are Cased study and Action research but these not mentioned, nor do the authors say anything about Critical research. I guess you can't squeeze everything into one book.

In sum, this seems like a useful book and I will probably use it next time a give my course.

Excellent text for beginner qualitative researchers

As a physician researcher, I was looking for an easy-to-read text to learn qualitative research methods. This book is great. A lot of other texts I browsed through used jargon, made assumptions about your knowledge of a particular field, or frankly did not make sense to me. This book describes the methodology in plain language and gives practical advice. I also enjoy the many case studies that are included in the book - they give flavor to the text.

Jonik regrets he hasn't claimed her before now but he has to do everything in his power to save the one woman in all the universe who was created just for him.

Will Jonik be able to save Lexie in time? Will they find the ones responsible for the theft of the dragons' eggs? Will they finally come together as a bonded couple?

Bad editing and just boring

I really tried to like this series. I've read, well quickly skimmed through all the books so far. I won't continue to read anymore. I really felt the story as a whole was just incredibly boring and instead of smart, courageous women we get bratty, careless teenage girls trying to rebel. The dialogue did not reflect adult conversations at all. Plus all 3 books are boring, the thing is these could really be great stories if some effort was put into it. Oh, and they are all in serious need of some quality editing. The poor editing just made the stories even worse. The potential is there for a good action packed sci fi romance but I think the author needs to write adult women into the roles not teen girls...and they're crappy teen girls at that. I've given this author 3 tries, I won't read anything from her again.

Wonderfully researched, superfood resource!

Wonderfully researched book with a vast wealth of superfood knowledge included! These recipes are fantastic and adaptable to many dietary preferences. I've had it just a few weeks so I've only tried a few recipes so far, but it's intrigued several house guests to read and even take notes. There is investment involved though; many recipes include very specialty ingredients. I can't wait to try more recipes and am really enjoying variations on their gelato this hot summer. Also, their personal stories were definitely compelling and they seem very passionate about spreading their health knowledge. This cookbook is something i kept in my cart for a long time, but I'm glad i eventually purchased it.

Holy long list of hard-to-find ingredients. I was expecting simple and I figure, after I finally track down all of the ingredients needed for each recipe, I'll have to carve out time to be in the kitchen all day. Also, waaay to many desserts and not enough meals. The images are beautiful but, ultimately, I'm less than thrilled.

About the Author
Stephen Turnbull is recognized as one of the world's foremost military historians of the medieval and early modern periods. He first rose to prominence as a result of his 1977 book, The Samurai: A Military History. Since then he has achieved equal fame in writing about European military subjects and has published over 50 books. He always tries to concentrate on the less familiar areas of military history, in particular such topics as Korea, Eastern Europe, the Baltic states and the Teutonic Knights. The author lives in Leeds, UK.

A history of the wako

Unfortunately, the first thing one notices about this book is what seems like a typo in the title. Instead of “Pirates of the Far East,” it’s “Pirate of the Far East”, which suggests piracy wasn’t so much of a problem in the region because there was only the one pirate—and that the author isn’t a fan of either definite or indefinite articles. I’m sure this was done intentionally, but it does read oddly and sounds tinny.

This slim book is a typical edition of the Osprey military history series. All of these books are less than 100 pages, illustrated, and focus on a specific class of warfighter over a defined period. In this case, the book presents a class of pirates called wako for the period from 811 to 1639. Wako literally refers to Japanese pirates, but--in fact--these marauders of the high seas were often mixed nationality crews. The book also provides information about counter-piracy activities and those groups of warriors, such as Shaolin monks, who fought against piracy back in those days.

This book covers a range of topics including: the life of a pirate, pirate ships, strategy, tactics, and weapons—as well as the history of these groups. The book has five actual chapters, but there are short units providing important information that would usually be appendices, e.g. a chronology, a discussion of museum exhibits, and an annotated bibliography.

The illustrations are mostly drawings, but include maps and photographs as well. Some of the art is drawn in the present-day by the illustrator Richard Hook, but some are historic pieces from art collections. The photographs also include some present-day photos of locations that were once bases of piracy, as well as photos of museum exhibits (e.g. topographic and other models.) The graphics are helpful in showing how pirates dressed/armored and were armed. The maps and drawings are particularly helpful.

I’d recommend this book, but I do think it’s overpriced at full price. At a mere 64 pages—a pamphlet more than a book--paying $10 or more seems a bit pricey despite the useful graphics and the fact that the author is among the most renowned authorities on Japanese warriors and medieval military tactics. All that said, there are relatively few books on the topic, and it’s not easy to get this information from other sources.

Pirate? Turnbull gives a brief history of piratical activity between China, Japan, and Korea. As many people have asked, what is it with the singular?
First of all, there were obviously more than one, and what is worse, they were multinational. Pirates are known for their proto-democratic or egalitarian behavior, Does that make them one? I still give it three stars since there are so few books on the subject and it does have some nice pictures.

Very good, but a little thin.

In other books the author has mentioned the piratical activities of the Wako, or Japanese pirates. This book is a good expansion on those mentions, and a good summary of wako activities. Illustrations are good. I feel, however, that the format of the book limited the information to be had. I would have liked to see more on the Portuguese pirates that joined the late-era Wako, for example, as well as more detail on the campaigns and life-styles of the pirates. The title, incidentally, is misleading, implying that the Chinese and Malay pirates, who were long-standing menaces to the Far East, would also be included. All in all, a good book, but not enough pages. This could be the basis for a larger, much better book.

A very tough read.

As the title suggests, this is a book about improving your speed. It is a general book applicable to any sport. And so the authors go to great lengths to generalize their program. I expected to read about the latest in exercise physiology concerning speed, recommended training, and exercises. We do get that sort of thing in a manner of speaking, but to put it very bluntly, this book is one of the most jumbled, mixed up, illogical presentations you are likely to read. Hard to believe three college graduates put this together. In order to get anything out of this book you kind of have to trudge all the way through it and improvise your thought process as you go. The authors give absolutely zero help. Do we get titles to the latest studies on sport speed--in the negative. Do we get information on the latest persons doing research on the subject--in the negative. Do we get a logical, understandable training program--in the negative. What we get instead is kind of a hodge podge of information coming from all directions without hardly any logical organized presentation. Oh--there is the seven step speed training program presented in 7 different chapters. And to give credit--it does look like this is a good speed improvement program. However the information the seven chapters (and you have to get through 3 almost imconprehensible chapters to get to the program) seems to rain down from the sky in a very disconnected fashion. There are few explanations of the whys and wherefores; there are zero explanations on where the program comes from or how it was put together, or where it fits in anywhere in what is being done by any one. It is just there, presented, and I suppose we are supposed to swallow it all on faith. There are presented many descriptions and photographs of useful looking exercises. I do know more about speed improvement after reading the book. But the information was gotten by pulling teeth.

Don't believe the hype!

The book deserves some credit because it does list contemporary training techniques in a comprehensive fashion, but it does not bring them together in a practical manner. There are also certain errors: 1) That you should do plyometrics last in a training program. Yeah right, high intensity training when you're tired. That removes the benefits and sets an individual up for injury. 2) Not mentioning true periodization for strength training. 3) Presenting impractical programs, especially for high school athletes. 4) Giving credibility to a fad diet (i.e. The Zone). That's almost shameful. If I had time, I'd list some other complaints. It's sad, but I have to admit that this is the best book out there for speed training. Just read it critically!

Good book for the non-track athlete

Unfortunately this book ignores periodization issues with the 100-200 meter runner. Excellent ideas are presented here for the track athlete, but the focus of this book is on the football, basketball, and baseball players of the world. One good thing about this book is that it does not believe in the defeatest attitudes of many coaches: "Speed can't be taught", "Sprinters are born, not made". Houston McTear, being the exception, most sprinters have to be developed.

Este livro cobre todos os pretextos que usamos para procrastinar o hábito de se exercitar, e também como acabar com cada um deles.
É um excelente guia para quem quer começar a fazer exercícios mas não gosta de academia, nunca se exercitou na vida e mesmo para quem já tem uma rotina pronta de exercícios.
A leitura é agradável e as dicas simples e fáceis de serem seguidas.
