Why did I not know about this book before???

This book is the s***! I can't believe I didn't know about it before. Sure, it's geared for the heavy weapon but the information on ballistics and corrections is transferable. This is an advanced book but not beyond anyone with an interest's reach...it should not be your only book on the subject but it should be in the library of every long range riflemen....civilian, LE or military. This is a BIG book...it can also serve as light body armor so keep it in your backpack while out on the range.

A great resource for long distance shooting

I read this book primarily for two reasons: (1) learn how to adjust for all factors in order to be on target with the first shot in varying conditions and at varying distances not known in advance of ranging, and (2) get an idea of specific makes and configurations of long distance rifles, optics, and related equipment so that I could make an intelligent selection. This book has been remarkably good in these two areas. It does present the information you need to know to dial in your shot accurately and adjust for changes in temperature, altitude, distance, and so on before you take the first shot. I've been pleased with the results using Dean's book and data tables. I've also used his reviews of rifles and optics to make purchases that I've been happy with.
If you have questions in any of these areas, this is a excellent book. Much of the book will be useful to you. The title does not fully reflect all the information contained in the book, though. It contains tons of useful information whether you shoot the big 50s or just 308s and 338s.
As far as other parts of the book of interest to real snipers or wannabes, such as target selection, evasion, etc, I have no expertise to judge, although I found the chapters an interesting read. My personal theory of combat is "when they're in range, you're in range" and therefore I'd just as soon stick to shooting paper targets or fresh venison.

For over twenty-five years Jeff has focused on performance initiatives for the private and public sector. Those activities have ranged from providing leadership programming for top executives at GE to transforming the customer service experience for over 125,000 employees of Starwood Hotels & Resorts. Clients have included Shell, Federal Express, Office Depot, MetLife, Boeing and Volkswagen of North America. Consulting solutions have ranged from leadership to performance management; from customer loyalty to team building. Many of Jeff's consultant activities were associated with The Disney Institute, a best-practices institution modeled on America's first corporate university. While there, Jeff was responsible for building Disney's customer service and creativity programs. The models, concepts, and examples of that program were later introduced to corporate America in Be Our Guest, a popular benchmarking title published by The Disney Institute, with a forward by Michael Eisner. As chief Learning Architect of The Public Strategies Group, Jeff has been focused on the establishment and support of training and development for federal, state and local entitles. This includes a multi-year focus in transforming Federal Student Aid for The Department of Education. As a keynote speaker he has addressed a wide variety of topics for groups like Miami-Dade, The City of Sammamish and the governor's office in Iowa. While in Iowa he also created performance management training for the Department of Administrative Services, and for the Department of Corrections. Recently he has been providing leadership-wide development and support for the New York City Department of Finance. Jeff is now President of Performance Journeys, a training and development group devoted to developing and implementing performance improvement and learning in the workplace. He is also CEO for World Class Benchmarking, where he provides a programming series that benchmarks many of America's greatest organizations, such as Nordstrom, Ritz-Carlton and JetBlue. Jeff Kober does a great job at showing the inner workings at Disney from a fans viewpoint, then explains how things work and why. The best part, though, is how he shows you how you can apply these practices to improve your own business. I highly reccomend his book.

As an actual former leader of the Disney organization, Mr. Kober provides legitimacy to the numerous first-hand stories he shares as well as to his many insightful business applications.

I like this book a lot! I purchased it for a French class so I could have easy translation instead of looking up every single word I didn't know and it worked very well. I learned about Germany's occupation of France from the perspective of French citizens and it was very interesting.

An amazing little book

I've bought hundreds of books through Amazon, but this is the first time I've been moved to write a review. I was deeply touched by this seemingly simple, small story. Instead of good guys versus bad guys, this shows the individual behind the enemy uniform. Each person in a uniform, whatever side he or she is on, is an individual, a human being. How beautiful that the author, in the midst of the German invasion of his country, could write about the enemy in a tender and sympathetic way. Kudos for such a truly extraordinary work. It continues to fill my thoughts.

This is a great short novel and the good thing about this book is that you can read the story and biography of the writer in english and the native language, french.
