Great Companion

I have volume one Welsh's Synthesizer Cookbook and it is a true Volume 2. By itself, it is a catalogue of waveforms present by harmonic content and if you are very proficient Synth programmer then it may provide value in developing sounds for some new project. I am not proficient but with the first volume, it becomes a real aid in building your inventory of sounds. I am very grateful to Mr. Welsh for both of his books. Excavating sounds from an analogue synth. is a real joy for me because of his efforts.

Wonderful read!

Just read "Scare Scape" and I loved it! Although it's targeted towards younger readers it's definitely enjoyable for people well over that age. The story is engrossing, the characters are well developed, plus there's the fun of magic and monsters! I have a feeling this book will be a best-seller. Buy it for your kids but read it yourself!

Fun, engaging book.

My child loves this book. It is engaging, good plot, believable characters and not too scary for kids. It was very fun for me to read as well, somewhat like I can enjoy the early Harry Potter books (the later ones were a bit dark for young children). This book was age appropriate.

About the Author
Sylvia Branzei lives in Garberville, California.

Jack Keely (Los Angeles, CA) grew up in Binghamton, New York, where his interest in illustration and art began at a young age. He spent much of his childhood drawing from comic books and inventing his own characters. He credits his parents for encouraging and cultivating his skills and talents. Jack went on to obtain his B.S.A. in illustration at the Rhode Island School of Design and his M.F.A. in design at the Cranbrook Academy of Art. To share his knowledge of these areas with others, Jack taught at North Carolina State University's School of Design and Ohio University. He also worked as an advertising art director for six years. In 1994, he moved to Los Angeles to concentrate on freelance illustration. In addition to illustrating more than 20 popular children's books, Jack has been commissioned to create artwork for magazine articles, book covers, greeting cards, and shopping bags. His cartoon characters have been translated into plush toys, plastic figures, puppets, and rubber stamps.

I like this book, it has many interesting facts. Mummies are found all over the world in different forms. In Egypt, Important people, like kings were made mummies, even their cats were worshiped and made into mummies. Egyptian mummies are the most famous mummies that most people know about.
I Learned that mummies are also found in South America, the Chinchorros were the first people to make mummies on purpose.
Many other places in the world mummies can be found that were made by accident from nature. Natural mummies are caused by being frozen, dried out in desserts or even in bogs (swamps).
I also learned that mummies that scientist have studied can teach us about how they lived. I found it very interesting .

I got the Kindle version and found this book to be helpful in applying excel skills to oil industry needs. I hope to use some of the concepts from this book in classes I teach in Corpus Christi. I recommend it.

In 1916, Grey decided to write an epic-scale historical novel about the building of the Union Pacific Railroad. It proved a difficult task, and his editor rewrote large chunks of it, eventually publishing the substantially altered book under a different title. Now Grey’s original version is published, in all its sprawling glory. Viewed simply as a novel, it feels clunky and unpolished, although the story—the construction of a railroad and how it affects the lives of the novel’s characters—has a Michener-style grandeur to it, both in its mixture of history and fiction and in its use of individual characters to represent sections of society. Viewed, on the other hand, as a glimpse into the mind of Zane Grey, as a look at the big novel he dreamed of publishing but never really did, it’s downright fascinating. We see an author who, if he possessed a little more self-discipline and a bit more technique, could have extended his range well beyond black hats and white hats. --David Pitt

About the Author
Zane Grey was born Pearl Zane Gray in Zanesville, Ohio, in 1872. He took his first trip to Arizona in 1907 and, following his return, wrote and published his first western, The Heritage of the Desert. One of the most famous Western authors of his time, Grey fashioned psycho-dramas about the odyssey of the human soul. More than 109 films have been based on his work, a record that remains unbroken. He died in 1939.

Building a Railroad Zane Grey's Way

What can one say about the greatest undertaking ever devised by man--the construction of the transcontinental railroad in the 1860's--and its exposition in story form by the greatest writer of the American West, Zane Grey. Historically accurate from beginning to end, descriptively unmatched by any other writer, and filled with characters enough to fill a mini-series. Of course, there is love found and love lost and then found again; it wouldn't be Zane Grey without that! But beyond the romance, the reader will find the heroism, the strength, the men and women with the kind of fortitude and vision that it took to make this country what it is today. And yes, there is a tragic side to the book. The passing of a life-style; the passing of a people--the Indian; for the progress of the railroad with its technology and its ability to bring huge numbers of people into the country meant the destruction of the Indian. I would recommend this book whole-heartedly for anyone--historian, or pleasure reader.

This writer tells the grim tales of the founding of our country through the exploration of the truly Wild West and the people who roughed out a life of fast money, gambling, loyalty and revenge. It bronzes solid, long suffering characters and shows pity to those who try to survive with a few dollars and a riotous, dangerous passing through uncharted terrain.Watch wealthy cattle barrens and ruthless attorneys set traps for those who pound the railways and the courageous shop owners who ride the waves of poverty and plenty, death and destruction.Grey's voice is clear and resolute, carving out characters that you can feel breath, moan and die.While the subject may be old to some the writing is gut wrenching genius.

Entertaining and historicl read

I like Zane Grey and have read many of his books and watched the movies made from his stories. What I resented was the Forward which I felt was demeaning. I suspect many authors have editors and others that clean up what may be conceived as lacking to the final manuscript.
Having said that, the book was full of great characters and railroad history. It could have been shorter, then again, how often do we wish a story would not end quickly. The story illustrates the changing of America and the extreme difficulty, the corruption, the life in work camps and the morals, or lack of in vivid detail.

About the authors: Terry Adamson has taught trial advocacy and pretrial advocacy classes at Pepperdine University School of Law for eighteen years and is one of the trial team coaches for Pepperdine's nationally acclaimed trial advocacy program. She is also a former Los Angeles County Deputy District Attorney, and has prosecuted a wide range of cases. She was the co-prosecutor for the high-profile, thirteen month long jury trial known as the "Chinatown" case, in which one of the multiple murder victims was a police officer. Professor Adamson was a Malibu Superior Court Commissioner for eighteen years, presiding over every aspect of felony and misdemeanor cases. She is currently the Distinguished Jurist in Residence at Pepperdine University School of Law. Professor Adamson is a recipient of the David McKibbin Outstanding Teaching Award. H. Mitchell Caldwell teaches Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure as well as trial advocacy courses and serves as advisor of the law school's highly successful interschool trial teams. Before joining the Pepperdine faculty, he was a trial prosecutor in Santa Barbara and Riverside Counties. Professor Caldwell routinely represents condemned prisoners in the appeals of their death sentences before both the California Supreme Court and the U.S. Supreme Court. He has written extensively in the area of criminal procedure, trial advocacy, and the death penalty and is the co-author of Ladies and Gentlemen of the Jury (1998), And the Walls Came Tumbling Down (2004) and The Devil's Advocates (Fall 2006). Caldwell also co-authored The Art and Science of Trial Advocacy for use at the law school level. Professor Caldwell has received several teaching awards including the Luckman Distinguished Teaching Award and was the recipient of the Richard Jacobson Award as the nation's premier trial advocacy teacher in 2000.
